About Motorola
Motorola is a multinational, Fortune 100 telecommunications company headquartered in Schaumburg, Illinois. Founded in 1928 by Paul and Joseph Galvin (originally the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation), the company's first product was a battery eliminator. The company adopted its trademark Motorola name when it began manufacturing car radios in 1930. Today the company manufactures wireless telephone handsets; it also designs, produces, and sells wireless network infrastructure equipment. Motorola produces a line of home and broadcast network products as well; this includes set-top boxes, digital video recorders, computer telephony, and broadcast video networking equipment. Motorola's handset division currently focuses on smartphones using Google's Android platform.
Motorola's divisional product lines include Enterprise Mobility Solutions, Home & Networks Mobility, and Mobile Devices. Enterprise Mobility Solutions, based out of their Schaumburg headquarters, concentrates on Motorola's enterprise mobility business and government/public sector contracts. Home and Networks Mobility, headquartered in Horsham, PA, develops digital systems solutions, interactive set-top boxes, voice and data modems and broadcast access systems. And finally, Motorola's Mobile Devices division (the company's most visible, yet least profitable arm) designs wireless handsets and Bluetooth accessories. Motorola is also involved in various ventures in mobile solutions, like Amobee Media Systems, a project that aims to fund mobile content and communications through advertising revenues.
